Tikal
Amorio Mendoza Malbec
I did not take notes as these wines were served over a casual lunch with the Tikal staff.
Ernesto Catena who is the eldest son of Nicolás Catena. Nicolás is of course family involved Catena Zapata. Ernesto is a 4th generation Winemaker and operates Tikal completely with biodynamic practices.
Their wines are quite good and will get better with 3-5 years plus in bottle. They are also very well priced on the international stage. Very good wines at a great QPR.
Photos of, their Bodega a hour south of Mendoza with the snow capped Andes in the background. Another small production wine they make at their offices called Lorange. The entire production stays in Argentina and our setting for our fabulous lunch.

Mar 20th, 2016This wine went down way too easy! Tikal "Amorio" is 85% Malbec and 15% Petit Verdot from 13 year old vines located at 3,000 feet elevation. This wine spent 12 months in 70% French & 30% American oak; 70% new, 30% 2nd & 3rd use. 93 Wine Advocate, 91 Vinous

Jun 9th, 2015The initial earth on the nose subsided as the wine oxidated. Chocolate tannins. Dark fruit but minimal. Rich enough for skirt steak. Simple dry red wine with medium plus body. Well made but a little too chocolatey for serious wine.
