As American as apple pie. A dark crimson color with wide edges. On the nose, dried raspberries instantly slap you in the face. Stewed plums and orange rinds. All around, the earthy notes here are less pronounced than other vintages but are still here. The obligatory oak shows up and says hello with time in the glass, accompanied by walnuts.
These Santa Barbara Pinots have really been impressing me. Distinctively American with none of the annoying Burgundian cosplay. Light bodied and exceedingly fresh. Very, very clean. The palate is focused and precise with red and blue fruits abounding. More raspberries but joined with strawberries and blueberries. Just enough earthiness along with more oak. This is a really pleasant Pinot, especially for the price.
