I don’t often drink Chardonnay, but when I do I usually despise it. But... thank you to the Australians for holding back on the heavy manipulation and letting the varietal speak for itself. The nose isn’t all that interesting, mostly lemon, chalky mineral, white flowers and undertones of black pepper and an herb I can’t quite place. The palette, also simple but nice, is bright with acidity and a nice, slightly bitter lime pith finish. In between you’ve got lime juice, wet rock (or maybe cement) and what I perceive as no oak and no MF. A spot-on pairing certainly didn’t hurt matters: pork tenderloin, roasted Brussels sprouts and salty mash potatoes. Yum.
