Another blazing-hot Phinney Zin blend that obliterates the varietals involved yet delivers some guilty pleasure... a tad pricey for this level of quality though... you can get a fairly similar experience with his entry-level stuff and after a glass or two of 16% flamethrowers any difference will vanish entirely ;)
For some real fun, get a group of Prisoner fans in a blind tasting with a range of Phinney wines and watch as confusion and disbelief reign!

Been wanting to try this for a while and sorry to say I am a little disappointed. The nose is good with dark fruit and some oak, the colour is inky and rich but then comes the palate which appears to be all over the place. Initially some fruit, spice, pepper and espresso but this is overtaken quickly by some sourness that is heightened by the high alcohol content. Twenty seconds later you are left with a hint of pear and cough syrup. I’ve got a ‘15 to try as well so let’s see where that’s at.
