Tasting notes from oloroso sherry cask 10131, bottle 205 of 650.
Nose: dark cherry, candied orange peel, dried plum, restrained fresh mint, slightly bitter oak spice, raisin, medium-dark chocolate, ginger.
Mouthfeel/Body: wonderful and silky, lovely texture; smooth, perfectly balanced viscosity.
Palate: dried cherry and plum, vanilla and cinnamon, fresh mint and oak spice, apple, evenly balanced molasses-esque oloroso sherry notes, and more soft subtle oak spice on the long finish.
Conclusion: absolutely lovely, delightful single malt. Great balance, wonderful mouthfeel and texture. A great demonstration of the harmony you get when you take a wonderful spirit, an exceptional cask, and let them go all the way to the end of their journey together; no second-cask finish or blending necessary.

The Balvenie makes some truly fantastic Scotch at all levels of aging. Having said that, every time they release a new batch of their Single Barrel 15yr aged varietal I do whatever I can to snag a bottle, and I'm not only never let down, I'm generally blown away.
