A rich dark Ruby red in colour. More blackberry notes and less pepper than usual with this Cuvée on nose. However black pepper, liquorice and plum on the medium bodied palate. A little constrained at the moment but this is the first of 4 bottles so I will get to find out the potential. Tried another bottle 31 weeks later on 14th February 2023. True to type with lots of black pepper and spice with a little blackberry. Tasted another bottle on 9th December 2023 with similar notes - loads of white pepper. Barely medium weight. A revised score of 88 points. It needs more mid palate fruit.

Pardon the water damaged label. Aromas of pepper, spice and fresh garden herbs. Almost like the garrigue aromas you get from a Southern Rhone red. Medium weight palate but M+ Intensity. Even though Hawkes Bay is home to probably New Zealand’s best Cabernets like Te Mata Coleraine it also produces excellent cool climate Syrah like this one. Not so special with Pinot Noir here which is grown by a few optimistic producers. Had another bottle on 7th February 2024 with similar notes. I love the pepper but it does need more mid palate fruit. I have a couple of bottles left. I can’t see the need for extended cellaring and will probably drink these in the next 12 to 18 months.

On the nose, black plum, blueberries. Black raspberries, light tarry notes, black licorice, violets, lavender and dry red florals. Fruits on the palate are the same as the nose. They are ripe, fresh and lean. Dry medium slightly sticky tannins, dark currants, anise, sweet tarry notes, crushed stones, violets, lavender & dry red florals, rich moist dark soils, light herbs & black cherry cola. Finishes with dead on acidity and a round, lush, beautifully long finish. Photos of Olathe outside tasting room and offices and the view coming out of their cellar.

Wow tasting lineup of Te Mata wines with CEO Nick Buck ! First time with all!. The Bullnose Syrah comes across big rich with loads of black fruits, pepper and spice. Reminds me of Cayuse Syrahs from Washington State. This 2013 was Awesome. I give it a solid 93+ Rating in my book! CEO tell me the 2014 will be even more Impressive. Can't wait!!!

Have always liked this wine and this style of wine ie. Cool climate Shiraz. Dark Ruby Color. Aromas of spice and plum - the pepper and liquorice have died from a few years ago. Medium weight palate with savoury notes super ceding the fruit. Drink last one in next year or two.

Chalk and black fruit. Black and green peppercorns. Tight tannins and black fruit. Slight overripeness on the mid-palette. Finish of ripe black fruit with bit of prune.
