Tbilvino
Qvevris White amphora
Wow this is different. Nose satsuma segments, stray apricot, rosemary. QUINCE JELLY. Then it's more of the same on the palate but with an almost instantly vanishing intensity. Explodes and then it's gone. Chalky and relatively harsh bitterness from the 6months or so that it'll have sat in it's amphora with the skins (stem maceration?). Enjoyable though! Keep it chilled, definitely.

Dec 7th, 2018*Mis-categorized on the app* Georgian style in a terra cotta egg but this is a wine from Alsace. Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurtzaminer. Rich apricot and orange tones in the glass. Cloudy and weighty on the mouth. Funky and f*ing perfect

Jan 2nd, 2018Bought from M&S, good price, very approachable, definitely don't serve too chilled as you'll mask a rather complex palate. Good to see on the shelves of a UK retailer

Nov 1st, 2015On the fence with this one. Bought from M&S, brave move to put it on the shelves. At first it was rather pleasant but shy on the nose with ripe apricot, hay and rose water. The palate came out very light in flavour but with sharp young grippy tannins making the experience rather unpleasant. Giving time and a more moderate temperature it opened up a bit, softening the tannins and opening up the flavours a touch. Still not quite in balance for me. Interesting and accessible, there is potential for the style, but I'm sure this is not the best example of orange wine.

Nov 13th, 2014Surprisingly accessible amphorae wine. Nice honeyed, floral apricot and peach notes on the nose, with light astringency on the stone fruit and cut hay palate. A touch of wet clay, but not the usual cement heaviness. Actually quite drinkable.
