Izbrani Teran
Izbani Teran is a native grape of Slovenia’s Kraz region, a very small appellation bordering Northern Italy. The vines are grown in iron-rich terra rosa soils, and that iron note translates on the nose and palate. This is a wine that is an acquired taste, Izbani Teran has very high acidity and that translates too, it’s spare on fruit, with tart, with fresh cranberries and some black plum skins to flesh it out. Pine resin, dried mint and rusty nail complicates the nose, in the mouth, saline and herbal undertones. 11.9% ABV Sample |

Jul 20th, 2013Don’t let the deep purple color throw you off, this wine is low in tannin, bright
and light on its feet. Teran is the (biotype?) of Refosco grown in Slovenia’s Carso on limestone and iron-rich terrarossa. Dried cherries, herbs, dried leaves, red earth. Very food friendly wine, worked with both a flatiron steak and Calabrian fried chicken.
