Stellenbosch Pinotage
Pinotage is quite an interesting hybrid. It's definitely at times a distant cousin of Pinot Noir, but at the same, not at all related. Such an interesting nose to this one! Cocoa bean, rubber bandaid (YES, specifically the fabric like bandaids; a kind of synthetic smell that's not necessarily off-putting, more of just an identifier.), tobacco, and coffee flood the nostrils. The pallet is quite expansive, with notes of blackberries, allspice, chocolate covered coffee bean, and a rich lingering finish. It's a great option if you are wanting something different and all you drink is Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
