Sloan
Rutherford Red Bordeaux Blend
Nose of camphor and graphite ahead of an insanely structured and primary Sloan. Espresso and blackcurrant, blackberry and fresh earth. Took 2 hours to come out from cellar temp, but boy what a show. This has 20+ years ahead. Phenomenal.

Jun 3rd, 2024Concentrated cassis and twigs on the nose led a big, round and voluptuous layering of black fruit, pure espresso and toasted oak. Tannins have faded to blue, creating a long and soft finish that feels like this masterpiece has peaked. I’m told this is Sloan in a “bad” year. Fine by me....
So this is wine no. 1,000 for me on @delectable and I wanted to thank @Antonio Galloni for supporting and investing in this distinctive, global community of wine nerds, bon vivants, industry folks and general winos. It clearly holds a special place for its members. Yeah, I may gripe about the non-trending “Trending” section, but this is the best place there is on my iPhone to share and learn about the grape juice I love. So I joined Vinous, and am joining the paid Delectable, as this is the best I can do to support the Delectable team. I’ll also do my best to make it to the Barolo Rare Wine Dinner in NYC next week! Cheers.

Stunning. Blackberry, smoke, sage, graphite. Lots going on. One classy wine.

Jan 20th, 2020This is a 💯 point Parker wine. It’s very close and will get there in time. Wait on this if own. It’s a beautiful wine. Great soft, silky yet has a slight grainy tannin structure. This has all the structure, tension, length and balance for greatness. It melts in your mouth. So smooth, so elegant and flat out delicious. Blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, plum, candied tarriness, anise, used leather, creamed underbrush and dark florals. The round acidity is perfect. The long amazing, well balanced, polished finish is stupidly gorgeous, sexy, delicious and persists endlessly.

Aug 17th, 2019The 2014 Sloan is a terrific example of the vintage at its best. Mocha, espresso, grilled herbs, leather, smoke and licorice are al fused together in this super-expressive, nuanced wine. In 2014, the Sloan is not as exuberant or rich as it can be, but that is really not an issue at all. The 2014 is a gorgeous wine in the making, that's all there is to it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2018)

Another drool worthy Napa cult. Beaming, pillared and utterly sumptuous - am explosion of black fruited goodness, without feeling out of the reigns. Young, but a pleasure to drink.

May 6th, 2018Have drank several vintages over the past year to include a few vertical. By far the most approachable.

May 3rd, 2018Voluptuous is the first word that comes to mind with this big Cab. A medley of aromas with plum, cinnamon, tar and mocha infused dark berries.
