This is in a great place right now. So , so freaking good. I opened a 97 Napa silver oak the other day and was slightly disappointed. I think the AV is the Mike Tyson of the 2 right now. Drink em if you’ve got em!

Bursting out of the glass. Bright overall with a surprising amount of tannin. Plenty of years left for this!

Better than expected. A bit big & oaky for my taste, but kinda fun. If you have any, drink up soon, it won't last too much longer.

When people send back perfectly mature Cabernet, what do you do? Convince them that they like something they clearly don't? Or take it back, sell off what you can by the glass, and enjoy the rest? Lovely juice.

Going back in time, a 97 Silver Oak, true to it's name after 20 years, lots of oak, mellow tones

From a Magnum, generously brought to the charity auction by Andy Joiner. Decanted and poured after about 30 minutes in the decanter. Still quite dark in color with a touch of bricking. Nose immediately suggests cork but not so much on the palate. The classic Silver Oak cedar remains along with (fading) fruit. Surprised by the other recent 97 reviews as this was somewhat of a letdown. More like a '98. Oh, but we finished it!
