Mar 19th, 2018Medium ruby color in the glass with a light purple rim. At 13 years old, I wasn’t so sure what to expect from this. Tired? Old? Dead? Nope, exact opposite. Still young and fresh, but mellowed out with time. She’s seen some things but doesn’t boast about them. Plenty of oak and dark fruits on the nose, along with a touch of smooth vanilla and baking spice. The palate consists of chocolate mousse, ripe strawberries, cherries, and a good amount of blackberries. There’s an earthy quality going on here but it definitely takes a backseat to the big fruit. The 14.8 shocked me because there’s very little heat coming through, especially on the second day. Nice long finish with spice and just a little burnt tobacco to bring things on home.
