Marion's Vineyard Pinot Noir
My quick notes for this wine:
A little heat
Silky soft
New world ripeness, old world texture
Decent finish
Plums
Marmalade, orange oil on the palate
Mineral feel in the finish

Once again, I would say this was a less than ideal showing of Kai's 16' Marion's Vineyard - be it storage or for some unknown reason, I felt the fruit should have been more vibrant especially in such a young wine. Anyhow, assessing it as it was, the wine was ripe, spicy, woody, and earthy. It sort of veered towards a Syrah, and finishes with a lick of old-world savoriness. Safe to say I wasn't a fan of the flavours this pino carried (in particular, that marmalade character I find in a lot of warmer climate pino), but the texture's a different story. Mouth-filling (probably courtesy of the high octane value too - 14) and plush, with fine tannins and crisp acidity. Definitely does bring about a sort of elegance. Likely a good pino in most cases, but just not for me.

Dec 8th, 2019Tobacco, Pepper, Earthy, Plums, Subtle Smoke.
Like Grace Kelly as princess and diplomat. Easily on par with Premier Cru Gevrey-Chambertain.

One of the most elegant Pinots I've ever tasted. Silky. #wairarapa

May 17th, 2020Another nice Pinot from New Zealand - the Martinborough region. Nice, easy drinking, well balanced and very fruity with flavors of strawberry, raspberry and some darker cherry. Lacking the mineral edge that we picked up from the Central Otago Pinot’s. Good news is, we got more to test! 👍
