I have a soft spot in my heart (and my palate) for dornfelder. A grape that doesn’t get enough recognition. Light in body, like a Pinot, but has a peppery spiceness that makes it a great winter red. Blackberries are dominant, some other darker fruits. There is also good chocolate and coffee flavors that round it out well.

A nice Australian guy working in a French sounding wine store on the edge of Chinatown recommended this very German red by saying "it's like a very easy drinking cab which is why they sell it by the liter. With a twist top". Spot on
