Savage Grace
Underwood Mountain Vineyards Grüner Veltliner
Columbia Gorge, Oregon/Washington, USA
Underwood Mountain Vineyard, Columbia Gorge, skin contact Grüner Veltliner. A bit of an experimental wine. Burnt orange in color, excellent clarity. Some sediment in the bottle, flocculent yeast, perhaps. A musk-like and pine aroma in nose, floral and grapefruit pith flavors, skin tannin finish with mild astringency, slight seed tannins bitterness with floral and light lactic notes in aftertaste. Bone dry. The body is light, almost silky mouthfeel followed by the skin tannin rasp on the finish. Not a variety I’ve previously seen done in an orange wine style. The more I taste this one, though, the more I like it.

Feb 18th, 2026Pale yellow white, excellent clarity. Dill and citrus in nose, lime white pepper and dill in mouth, as the label promises. Honey? Maybe. Dryish, crisp, some lactic and skin astringency on finish. Nice character, attention to craft here

Michael Savage makes some seriously killer wines. If you're ever in Woodinville you need to taste this! Great representation of Grüner. Herbaceous and floral.

1 person found it helpfulApr 24th, 2016A young Gruner but still a wonderful expression of citrus and oil mixed together. Had this as a sipping wine pre dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. Glad I have more in the rack.

Lovely wine. Softened but absolutely lovely. Sweeter over acidic but in a good way.

Pretty solid Gruner. Not a huge amount of acidity so it did not pair as well with my Thai food as I had hoped. Sweeter but nice.
