Dense dark purple-red, highly extracted pigment. Herbal and red fruit notes in nose. Black currant flavor, fine grained tannins in finish initially, cranberry aftertaste, high skin astringency. Massive tannins remain after three hours; decant longer else age, age, age this sucker... This could prove a really nice wine for the cellar. Solid seed bitterness backbone in this wine, but the skin and possibly stem astringency is the challenge in deciding whether to opt for aging versus decanting. Great varietal expression nonetheless. A bold yet largely successful take on an old school West Coast varietal. An alternative: decant 24 hours and the flavors are lovely, but the large tannins remain fairly massive.
