Robert Young Estate Winery
Bob's Burn Pile Cabernet Sauvignon
YOUTHFUL. Hedonistic fruit, but still locked up. Chalky youthful fruit. Finishes with a lot of acidity and a lot of youthful tannin. I think opening up one of these ultimately was a mistake, as this needs probably five years before it will show well. After two hours of air it did improve quite a bit. Shows the power that this well made cabernet from northern Alexander Valley can give you. A 20 year holder/ager without a doubt, should be packing a solid 1-2 punch in 5 years. But still a 93 with this impressive red fruit characteristic

Feb 23rd, 2019Posted a 12 and 14 burn pile and the 13 told me it was jealous. This is the most consistent and the best red wine RYEW makes. Thick and dense. Limestone, licorice, black fruit, and a ton of it. Finishes with a ton of length.

Sep 1st, 2018What a wine. I look down to see the 2020-2025 drinking window on Cellartracker, and can't help but thinking that this probably would be the best window if I had any willpower at all. Unfortunately I don't...therefore find the cork out of this one after a 2012 Gargiulo G Major 7 has been successfully polished. This has to be one of the better Cabs coming out of Geyserville IMO, and this producer knows a thing or two about cab having planted the first cab vines in Alexander Valley. Powerful blackberry and meaty nose. The entry is all blackberry, medium+ to full bodied, with a licorice note in the middle, leather and spice. Finishes very stiff, and this is where I think this wine will improve in the next five years. But this one is in NO HURRY of showing its complexity. Already drinking rather well and very happy that I have a mag of this one set aside.

Nov 25th, 2017What an incredible cab! Showing so beautifully at such a young age. This wine has youthful blackberry on the nose. Entry is thick, dark, full bodied...blackberry and smoked meats. Although lots of blackberry, there was herb and some green pepper to the middle. Toasted oak on the back with a chalky and somewhat acidic finish. Went well with pulled pork and smoked turkey. Delicious wine, overlooked producer but probably in my top 5.

May 7th, 2017You can't find a better cab anywhere. Classic Cabernet flavor, smooth, fruit forward. Wonderful!
