Alexander Valley Malbec
Quite smooth and delicious, with homemade bbq’d ribs. It’s delicious! Super smooth, the spice is there. The robustness...its ALL THERE! But, slightly. You just desire a bit more. It just teases you...all of it, there, teasing.
But, maybe that’s what Malbecs do. Make you wish there was a Cab in your mouth. Or, a spicy pinot or Zin?

Nose of purple fruit and herb. Entry is purple bramble. Not jammy in any way. Good sharp acidity on the front. Goes to more of a underripe fig on the middle. Finish has some stiff oak astringency. I think it will take a few years to integrate. Still thinking this one is a couple of years away from the top of the hill so hold this one if you have it. If I were to do this differently, I would probably have decanted for 2 hours before serving.

Sep 16th, 2019Very youthful Malbec. Poured a very deep violet into the glass. This wine had a nose of purple fruit and cinnamon out of the glass right from the very start. However, the palate was quite restrained initially, showing a lot of oak and some sweeter purple fruits and maybe a hint of bitter chocolate. As the wine sat, it opened up very nicely. The aforementioned notes became much more verbose, and also gathered a cinnamon and spice cake kind of note in the middle. This is not a full bodied wine, and it never developed to being so. However, I was definitely feeling every bit of the 14.8% ABV. The finish is still a bit stiff, and I believe that a few more years in the bottle will help this part of the wine out the most. This one fell victim to experiment, but a nice experiment nevertheless.

Jun 5th, 2018This is a big boy! At first sip I think I grew a couple of chest hairs. This one was black tar, blueberry and purple fruits. As it sat for 20 minutes or so, it showed its fruit side. Nose of purple fruit perfume and flowers. Entry had a thick mouthfeel, as if you were tasting a grape crème Brulee. A darker note of buttered toast in the middle. A little brambly, but very much held in check by the massive dark purple notes. The finish is herbaceous, peppery, perfume, lots of spices swirling all around but a very chewy youthful and sweet purple and blue fruit finish (mostly purple fruit dominating this finish). Really nice Malbec that I am rather certain has not yet reached its top. This one still has some growing up to do, and the finish could soften just a bit and still be just as dominant. Really good value as well.
