Much better than I expected after trying some Awash Ethiopian Wines. Subtle and more in character with the intended style. Solid, but not phenomenal.

Dark ripe fruits, black pepper and vanilla. Surprising acidity and a good structure. Warm and notes of Marmelade.

Earth, mineral, lightsyrah. Nice change from Australian Shiraz, and excellent with Ethiopian food, especially spicy dishes. More like a California Petit Syrah than Australian Shiraz, so don't expect the latter.

No point of reference, but I’m curious and this has been the most interesting of the Rift wines thus far. Begat by French bev giant Castel primarily for domestic consumption (although 25% goes to China?) Nice structure and acid enlivened w some well-intoned brett—more highlands mule than barn. Still, but many bubbles. I’m struggling to pierce the character, but the burly petit sirah vibe is a welcome ballast to a spicy wot. The land seems ripe for less mass produced vino, but the few smaller production efforts are all sweet!
