Retro Cellars
Howell Mountain Petite Sirah
Lovely, complex, layered. Combo of crunchy berries and macerated plum, black pepper, meat, savory and sage. Some brett but to me this was nuanced, adding a layer to wine that I enjoyed. Came across as an umami side with a kiss of something synthetic but I’m digging it.

Coravinned a quick bit before heading out of town on vacation.
Deep purplish red. Layered nose with dark cocoa, spices, lavender, lilac, crushed rocks and cinnamon. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Tight palate that definitely needs some time to open up and integrate further. Dried floral notes, stones, dried cherries and twigs. Powerful Petite Sirah with an insanely dry long finish. Drink from 2019 till 2034. (92+)
Looking forward to trying this again with a decent decant.

Lovely and consistent. Massive French influence with earth and barnyard smells. Medium depth and a rustic flavor. Dark fruit. Medium finish. Excellent QPR. Definitely my style.

Apr 2nd, 2021Seductively dark ruby in the glass. Terrific nose featuring foresty earth, spices, toasted wood, and floral undertones. All of that mingles with delicious dark fruits. I could honestly go on and on about the nose on this, it's magnificent. This is so obviously mountain fruit. On the palate, plums, dark cherries, and smoke assault you. There's a rustic, woodsy influence here with just the right amount of vegetal traits and mountain minerality. Such great balance and acidity with a nice, long finish. This can keep for several more years but you're a stronger man than I am if you can wait.
