Splendid straight away, good complexity and balanced with undertones of dark cherry - I like it which means not only prior reviews were off-target, but it's the only Spanish wine thus far to satisfy my refined epicurean palate.

Lots of oak on the palate. Dark fruit. Leaning on the modern side

v2001. A bit of Brett, initially, but that dissipated about 30 min after opening, which allowed aromas of lavender, leather and black fruit to shine. Black cherry, roasted meat, and juicy acidity on the palate, and a great finish. I really can't relate to the low ratings some have given this wine. A good, moderately aged Rioja at $35? Yes, yes it is.

Wine took a while to open up. Definitely decant an hour before dinner.
