Here’s a deliciously intense rosso wine from the Montefalco DOC in Umbria, Italy (Central). 🇮🇹 It’s comprised of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 15% Sagrantino grape varieties. 🍷 Prior to release this wine spent 24 months in large oak barrels, 6 months in stainless steel, 6 months in bottle. 🪵

This is a biodynamic wine, which means it was not only farmed organically, but also pursuant to a philosophy holding that the soil and vineyard are part of a bigger, higher system involving the cosmos. 🌙 This philosophy focuses on biodiversity and using natural and homeopathic preparations to enhance and strengthen the land and vines and their natural defenses. 💪

“Raina” is the nickname of the farmer who previously tended to the land from which this wine hails, a way of honoring the past and paying tribute to this history of the vineyards. 💗

This wine is deeply colored. It has markedly savory aromatic and flavor notes punctuated by blackberry bramble, juicy plum, dried mint, peppercorn, nutmeg, cardamom, smoked meat, leather, earth. Yum!

I like this a lot, especially the medium level of fruit. Reminds me of Chianti but a little bit mode southern Italian influences of a little .... rounder? There is VA on this, but I wish it was a tiny bit less, because the backend has a strongish but good VA taste. On the other hand, if it didn’t have that little kick at the end with VA filter might start feeling too round and not have enough acidity to balance it. I like it, especially for the price but don’t think this is my new “bargain” Italian wine.

少し甘さがあって、落ち着いた果実味。
カシス、ハーブ、ヨード。
果実味は落ち着きつつあるが、アフターのタンニンはしっかりしていて、少し乾いた感じ。
落ち着いた果実味との対比もまた良し。

Tight on first pour and a bit thin. Cost €15 for a bottle so good value but not really exciting

Slightly acidic. Needs to breathe a bit and then goes down easy. Pairs well with carbs and cheese -- perfect with pizza!
