What a wine! With it's pale tawny coloring, the nose and palate is quite the exhilarating surprise! Nose: mature characteristics of earth, mushroom, tobacco, stewed tomato, toffee, balsamic. I discovered Essence of fried flowers, med + flavors with meaty tannins from the oak. On the palate: med+ acidity, med. tannin, med alcohol, med body, deliberate oxidative quality of balsamic, tart red fruit and umami. I found this to be very good, still quite alive and fresh, can go on for another 3-5 years. Fine specimen of a aged quality Rioja.

In this Sommeliers opinion this is Spain! I've never had a bottle from Lopez that I was not happy with. When a wine can speak of a place like this you know an artist is making the wine!
