I am a big fan of Portuguese wine and The Douro it is probably the region that it has a greater potential for amazing wines. Beautiful red and purple color. To the nose : species ( peppery, vanilla and thyme ), oak with a surprising mineral component, plum and dark berries. Taste: powerfully fruity, sweet, vanilla, high tannin and high alcohol content. I wouldn't pair this with anything that doesn't involve bread ... :) ... Hard to know the main grape on this blend but I would say : touriga nacional, tinta Barroca and tinta roriz (Tempranillo) but not necessarily in this order. It has reminiscences of Porto all over. Love anything that this region produce and this is not exception but : The super fruity/sweet flavor, the out of control tanning and lack of the character that exhibit, compared to their Spanish counterpart, it holds me for giving a highest rate to this ( nevertheless ) really good and enjoyable wine.

2009 Callibriga Douro. Very spicy with pronounced black pepper. I taste a little meaty olive also.

Red fruit, dark chocolate and coffee bean on the bouquet. Nice body. Think Australian Syrah. Delicious.
