A nice old bottle. Love the funk (wasn’t expecting) structure and complexity. Could’ve done with less alcohol. No complaints on fruit level which concerned me at first but after opening up provided a foil for the heat. Younger I wouldn’t have liked this as much but now it’s singing.

Good merlot has structure and is balanced. Not too fruity and integrated oak and mineral. I had a 2010 and it definitely benefitted from a few years of aging.
