Planters Ridge
Quintessence White
My first Canadian wine ever! A red wine from Nova Scotia of all places. And it was surprisingly good. It had a Pinot Noir or perhaps Pinotage character. Medium bodied, good acidity, dark earthy allspice under-notes. It was a blend of three grape varieties that have been developed in the north east and adapted to their local climate: Lucie Kuhlmann, Castel, and Marquette. Cold hardy, early maturing varieties. Some of these varieties have Pinot noir in their heritage and one of them, Castle, has the Cinsault (Hermitage) in its crossings.

Oct 29th, 2022Wine has low intensity of aromas consisting of bell peppers, citrus and green apple. On the palate... light bodied, medium dry. Apple and green pepper confirmed as well as some herbaceousness that I can't quite pick out. Acid high, alcohol medium. Finish is lengthy with a bit too much bitterness for my liking.
