Do you have a favourite Verdelho producer?

I love my Verdelho (as you can probably tell from the empty bottle)! And WA alongside NSW produce some stellar examples including this Pinelli 2018 Reserve Verdelho. This one is dry but Verdelho can be made into sweet and fortified wine too. This white wine grape variety loves warm dry climates like that of Perth’s Swan Valley.

If grown and made well Verdelho can produce super tasty young wines and also wines that can age very well in the cellar 👵🏼

In the glass this one’s a pale yellow shade. On the nose it’s full of lemon citrus and as Mr Spittoon puts it, it smells a bit like Brie cheese with apricot bits in it! Creamy and fruity I guess you could say! In the mouth those apricots join flavours of nectarines and peach for an orchard fruit medley then there’s a nice acidic citrus kick. More please!

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

It’s only natural that I packed a few Swan Valley favourites into my bag before leaving Perth. We enjoyed this Pinelli 2017 Reserve Verdelho while playing a game of Scrabble recently (yes we’re still waiting for our furniture!).

It’s a very pale lemon colour on the eye. Whiffs of honeydew melon, florals and straw come through on the nose for me. While in the mouth it is ultra thirst quenching with notes of lemon grass and a hint of honey. The only thing I didn’t like? The fact I did t pack more of it!

{TASTING NOTE}

We picked up this bottle of Pinelli 2016 Verdelho from the cellar door in the Swan Valley for about $17. It was a great match to our homemade pizzas! So if you're heading to their pizza and wine event on the 5th of Nov then I'd suggest trying this wine & food pairing (win tickets to this event here: http://bit.ly/PinelliFBComp)

Lovely fresh shade of yellow on the eye. On the nose it has a rather leafy and floral perfume with a nice whiff of pineapple. It puckers the mouth with its juicy flavoursome character full of lemon and apple/pear with a bit of a baking spice kick. I really enjoyed this Verdelho!

Verdelho is a white grape varietal that thrives in the Swan Valley. Originally from Portugal and associated with the island of Maderia in particular. We recently picked this up from the Pinelli Estate Wines cellar door in Caversham. $17 per bottle.

Pale baby yellow colour on the eye. The nose is a mix of vegetal and tropical fruit aromas; asparagus, pineapple and honeysuckle come through with a sprinkling of vanilla and a squeeze of lime. The palate is fruity, juicy, dry and delish with flavours reflecting the nose. Super pleasant and refreshing tipple.
