One of two ‘99 vintage Napa cabs I’ve had recently (the other being Seavey) and this was a step or two behind. The fruit is all stewed and muddled...mainly dusty blackberries and old puréed red fruit. There is a distinct cocoa dusted dates note in the middle of this wine and even some old graham cracker. The fruit is even slightly tart on the palate (underripe plum, older currant), though very herbal at the finish. This was slow oxed for quite a few hours by the time I got to it, so it may have faded a bit by then. Regardless, drink up.

Deep garnet red. A bit stinky on the nose with red fruits and damp forest floor. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium to medium plus body. Similar tertiary notes on the palate with damp leaves, forest floor, black cherries and earthiness. Medium plus finish. Drink till 2019.

Red fruit dominated with well integrated components and the right level of extraction.

I have been saving this wine for a while. Drink by date was 2020. That is too long as this wine is almost past its prime. All that is left are a few lonely tannins and a bitter blackberry finish.

Another in between snow storms grilling night. This is one of our favorites. Decanted two hours, typical Rutherford dust.

Delicious cab shared with one of my best friends, Mark. He recently became a member of Pine Ridge. This cab blend has aromas of cherry and plum with ripe, soft tannins that add polish and acidity to make it bright and juicy.
