Succulent red coming from decomposing "brune et blonde" schists terraces down in the Malleval, Ampuis district. Being subject to total destemming, cold maceration and microoxigenation -among other heresies-, this one seemed like a recipe for disaster. But the artistry of Gaillard and the impeccable terroir deliver a refined yet fleshy Côte-Rôtie. Don't expect a Guigal-style, 100+ points, behemoth. There's a definitive Burgundian influence here. #côterôtie #Syrah #rhone

My favorite value cote-rotie producer by far. This is complexity in a glass. Brooding black and red fruit. Deep overripe to rotting raspberries and black cherries. Fresh mint leaves and finely ground black peppercorn with that notorious torched underbrush sense. Cedar and smoked ham notes on the finish. This is a winner for sure. 2010 vintage was blockbuster as well.

A sumptuous, gorgeous nose that shows candied orange zest, blackcurrant pastille, graphite and voluptuous red fruit as well as a mix of mint leaf, eucalyptus and sweet liquorice. Great development in the glass. In the mouth though soft, there are some powerful fruits that come through, red on the mid palate and then grippier, darker, smoky cherry fruit on the finish. Gorgeous.

This is what's its all about. Balance is an understatement.

Winestone. Nice after 1 hour decant, lots of residue. Almost undrinkable after 24 hours in the bottle.
