Doesn't scream Sangio, but impressive and unique solara approach.

Wow this was delicious. The savoury Sangiovese line is super drinkable. It disappeared in a flash.

For me a better drink than it was necessarily a Sangiovese: properly ripe fruit aromas of pepper and bush berries, well weighted palate. Soft (!) tannins to close. On the blind I thought it was Yarra Valley Shiraz.

Edition 3 of this solera sangiovese from Payten and Jones. Not sure what the vintage blend is, but the first edition goes all the way back to 2014, so I'm guessing that's included. Enjoyed the first two iterations, but this one didn't sit well for me, mainly because the finish was way too bitter. Delicious aromatics though - ripe black fruits, floral, cacao. Palate's spicy and quite rounded. Plush tannins. There's complexity for sure (in fact, this was my pick when tasting at the winery), but it just lacks drinkability.
