The Hermit Syrah
Monthly WTF wine group meet up. This month is new world vs old world Rhône’s. All wines tasted blind. 3 flights.
I guessed this was new world Syrah, but it has a northern Rhône soul without a doubt. Crushed rock, rose petal, iron and a kiss of ripe red fruit that cements it as new world. No problem enjoying this young. Thanks @Jack Thompson

Called it a northern Rhône Syrah in a blind. Tart black fruits, leaves, dusty forest floor, peppercorn, spices, game, and leather. Neutral oak, well structured and balanced. Rather tight tannins after 5 years.

Oct 18th, 2018Very spicy and savory. Fruit components turn darker with more air. Tannins are tight and grainy.

Sep 13th, 2018Old world philosophy and Sonoma terroir. Low brix, whole clusters, and cool climate. All things I love. Tasty now, but will evolve for a few more years.

Nov 20th, 2017Right up my alley. Maybe reminds me more of Cornas with its muscle, olive and spice mixture. Nice ripe fruits and lasting finish.

Aug 5th, 2017It’s in such a great place right now. Nose jam packed with fresh dark fruit, palate is already showing some beautiful secondary development. Earthy and lots of iron and smoky fatty bacon.

Interesting wine here. Looser than the Griffins Layer Syrah, this one spends more time in the midpalate with ripe fig and baked strawberry. Lots of spice filling out the edges. It reminds me of CDP or some older Saint joesphs I have had.
