The inky blue/black '04 Pax Syrah 'Obsidian' was my least favorite vintage from this volcanic glass vineyard. But it is still a powerful mouthful of wild black tea, tar, pencil lead and jammy dark fruit flavors. Much too extracted to be considered balanced. It did, however, hold its own with chargrilled, pepper-encrusted steak I paired with it.
