O'Shaughnessy
Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.
Similar experience to last having this eight or so months ago. Rich and powerful without being out of balance. Inky blue and black fruits, sweet oak and vanilla tobacco on the nose. The palate here was expansive and a bit wild (in a good way)...signature mountain structure, dusty youthfulness in the ripe fruits. Dark chocolate & plum on the finish. Delicious now but probably better in a few years!

Elegant, well balanced, dark fruit and velvety.

Jan 1st, 2019I really enjoyed tasting this next to the ‘14 Progeny Veeder Cab. Same winemaker. While I thought the Progeny edged this out slightly (though it wasn’t entirely fair with them being different vintages) this was still a textbook Veeder wine. It is rich and powerful without being out of balance. Inky blue and black fruits, sweet oak and vanilla tobacco on the nose (almost identical to the Progeny). The palate here was a bit more expansive and less reigned in than the Progeny...signature mountain structure, dusty youthfulness in the ripe fruits. Dark chocolate & plum on the finish. This will improve a point or two in the next few years...fantastic.

Dec 29th, 2018Another example of how O’Shaughnessy might be craft some of the most consistent and well-made wines in Napa. They’re always great, priced correctly, and offer pleasure short or long term. To me the freshness I found in Mt. Veeder really carried this otherwise dense and inky wine across the palate. It’s powerful, structured but maintains poise and elegance given its ballast. Gorgeous with air.

Sep 9th, 2020It’s funny. I used to really only enjoy the Howell Mountain. And then I had the 2013 Mt Veeder. It wasn’t as green as previous Veeders and has such a full body and luxurious mouthfeel, I fell in love with it. Amazing right now. @Sean Capiaux - Great job!

Jan 10th, 2018I am not a Mt Veeder fan and I’m usually not even excited about O’Shaughnessy Mt Veeder, but ever since I had the 2013 and each time, I am thrilled by it. It’s rich, expressive and you can taste Napa in it.
