Oddero
Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso
Tortonesi, Alessandria, Piedmont, ItalyStrong reductive notes upon opening, so decanted, and on day two it finally cleared up. Although muted on the nose, the wine opens nicely on the palate, with green apple, lemon, ginger, and floral notes. Medium/high acidity brings a nice freshness. Finish is the highlight, driven by a saline minerality, and the citrus and fruit notes linger on the palate for quite a while. Tasty, but doesn’t have the full body and waxy mouthfeel that is supposed to be typical of Timorasso.

Wait…I need a moment to compose myself! Yessir… bright limpid lemon yellow. Restrained young nose… touch of green stem… until you taste. Then all hell breaks loose! Light in texture, but the crash of lemon, straw, unripe pear, and gooseberries arrives like a tsunami. Can’t help but smile… the wine’s complexity and playful zest overwhelms me…. As it warms the wine arrives like an old lover and whisks you away. Holy hell… where has this grape been all my life. Smooth, silky, caressing on the finish. Glad I have five more. Can’t wait for summer MI corn and local heirlooms to devour with this wine. New Year best wishes, everyone! Okay… revised to a 94!
