Northstar
Walla Walla Valley Syrah
Northstar's Syrah is planted with the Phelps clone. Yes, named after the late, great, legend, Bill Phelps. It's planted in the "Rocks District of Milton-Freewater just the other side of the state boarder in Oregon. The nose has soft, elegant, floral fruits, big pepper, caramel, smoke, raspberry/blueberry bubble gum and purple florals. The palate core is black currants. Black licorice anise, tarry notes, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, dark cherries, strawberries, raspberry/blueberry bubble gum, pepper, violets and purple florals. The M-M+ body has soft velvety tannins, great acidity and a round, lush, long dark finish. Photos of; the blending barrels in their visitor blending room, private tasting room and a close up of their sandy, loamy soil structure.

Sep 9th, 2022Not at all what I was expecting. Pleasant fruit on the nose with some underlying spice. Chocolate and boysenberry on the palate. Did I mention spice? Because there's a lot of it here, in a good way. Way more Bordeaux-y than I imagined. Give it some time to open up and really come alive. This is some really good juice.
