Vista Luna Borden Ranch Zinfandel
Another vintage to experience. Ruby red in color, highly extracted pigment. Mint-eucalyptus, butter and raspberry notes in nose. Blackberry and cherry flavors, cherry aftertaste with length. Later, a cola-like flavor emerges. Moderate skin astringency, chewy fine grain seed tannins initially. Fairly integrated flavors after an hour. A serious tannin structure to this one, worth decanting at least a hour. An impressive wine, fruity but not your typical Zin. Made to a more ambitious design for this varietal; I admire their ambition and execution here. It largely works

May 16th, 2016This Zin disappoints with a somewhat fruited alcoholic nose, but then recovers nicely with a pallet of dark cherry, smokey fig, and mild chocolate flavors. Pairs well with lamb or other strong flavors. Medium body soft tannin.
