Murrieta's Well
Small Lot Livermore Valley Cabernet Franc
Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay, California, USA

Today was my annual hosting of the Wednesday Wine Committee. There was 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert, all provided by me. Tasted blind, as always.
Red wine number two. I’ve had a few of these small lot wines from Murrieta’s Well and Robbie Meyer has obviously paid nice attention to them as these are excellent Livermore Valley examples. The merlot was just wonderful and this is close behind. A bit more dense in style than most cab francs, showing sweet and ripe dark fruit all over with a touch of typical Livermore Valley black licorice. Zero pepper to this, and not much savory traits either. I poured this blind for some people and the common guess was Cab/Syrah Blend. Juicy and ripe but deep and concentrated. I think this needs another 2-3yrs but nice with about a two hour decant. Many thanks to @Jason and Jennie for introducing me to these wines.

My favorite wine from them. 93+. Enjoy it a lot. Pop n pour it shows a lot of fruit. I prefer it over the cab sauv. I’m glad they are replanting more to cab franc. Merlot and cab franc is their specialty. Also wish they would make a syrah from their grapes since andre Tchelistcheff said livermore was the best region in the US to emulate french syrah.

Had to say goodbye to the weekend wine job at Murrieta's Well due to a demanding thing called med school. It's been such a fun year leading vineyard tours and tasting through Robbie Meyer's first wines at the estate. I've been throwing these wines into our blind flights we do at home and they always impress against big time Napa wines. Especially this cab franc. At 60'bucks, it's a great wine. The cabernet has still not been released (hopefully august), but the cab franc and merlot are the stars of the estate.
