Memory Found Syrah
Cote Rotie anyone? Funk and more funk...once it blows off you get smoked brisket and cloves. Pass on the 13, the 12 is incredible.

Jun 14th, 2020Had the chance to drink both the 12 and 13 with Matt Reynvaan of this special offering. Wine was aged 24 months in a combination of 600L Puncheon and neutral French barrels then rested for another 36 months in the bottle. Wild game, smoke and blood sausage on the nose. I found no edges on palate, yet I do find this wine to be nicely balanced in regards to acid and tannins with very little manipulation from Matt. 12 slightly edged out the 13.

Apr 19th, 2019The 2013 ‘Memory Found’ Syrah is a head-turning and seductive release from the incredibly talented winemaker, Matt Reynvaan. On the nose this shows massive range, from Hoisin sauce to peat moss to wet stone and citrus rind to brandied dark cherries all taking shape beautifully in the glass. Despite its age and the heat of the vintage, this is lithe and youthful, showing a wonderful combination of tension and purity. Flavors of pipe tobacco, chocolate covered dark cherries, roasted figs, wet stones, blood orange zest and umami all marvelously combine. The salinity of the wine also adds wonderful appeal, as this shows remarkable complexity and range, through the finish. Overall, this is a stunning Syrah that will be best enjoyed within the next five to ten years.

Feb 18th, 2019Another wine that probably needed a more contemplative setting to stand out in the crowd. This is from Matt Reynvaan so I’m confident it is a solid Syrah worthy of praise but it wasn’t giving up much last Saturday.

May 19th, 2019Excellent balance. Just the right amount of rocks funk. I wish more Washington Syrah was like this.

Jan 15th, 2024Great nose to this Syrah, just a little too light bodied for me. Body of a pinot & nose of funky Syrah so it averages out
Jeb 93, so nothing to get excited about
