A gift from an old school friend at our 51st Reunion at Toowoomba Grammar School for those who graduated in 1970. He is a huge Single Malt fan and it was great to have the benefit of his experience and try this Mortlach 16 years old, for the first time. This is a Speyside single malt matured in only Sherry casks which impart a fruity note. Very mellow, balanced and warming on the palate. I normally prefer peaty Islay malts but this was a nice change - very high quality with full bodied flavours. Thanks John - I will buy another bottle next winter.

A not-so-wee dram for my birthday reminds me how Mortlach separates from the herd. Transcendent light-bodied balance yet a finish that goes on in breath long after swallow. A poetic emotional drink.

The last two weren’t worth writing about, but this is fantastic. Nutty with a nice toffee flavor.
