Day 2 of Napa in the books!

Whoa! WA/OR Walla Walla valley meets Napa in style. This is big and bold with a balance of baked blackberry and blueberry fruit with savory notes. Bacon fat, just a small hint of olive & iron. Richness of the fruit on the finish show this isn’t Walla Walla or Northern Rhône, but what a really nice offering.

Deep purple with a nose of blackberry jam, sweet tobacco, açaí, tar, vanilla, and a hint of baking spices and pepper. Lots of aroma in this wine. Full bodied, with a touch of sweetness. Very smooth. Good finish on this well made wine. Got this as part of the Modus Operandi mystery case. A nice surprise. Had with Shepherd’s Pie on an Friday evening in October. Good pairing.

Wow. Middle of the road at first. 3 hours later this one gets FUNKY!! At first, bacon, roasted black fruit, pepper, iodine. Finishes with nice toasted oak tannin. Pours thick and inky into the glass. Mouth coating. After 3 hours, this one went to a soy sauce, grilled smoked ribeye, roasted plum and fig and went to the funky and meaty side. This wine has depth, structure and character to last a while. But word to the wise: if you want the fruitier side of this wine, pop and pour this one. For the funk lovers, wait it out for a few hours and you will be rewarded.
