Tonight I stopped by the home of my friend, the Strong Man, who offered me a fine wine in a coffee mug - and why not? He was in a grand ol' mood because he had just got engaged to the Bearded Woman. He was planning to ask one of the Siamese Twins to be his best man (he wasn't fond of the other twin) and we laughed at the hijinks that would surely ensure. On the way out the door my friend handed me a ticket to the Freakshow - always a good time.

Time for my #FridayCabernetfix . Here's a nice one from Lodi, California.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, smoke, chocolates, mocha, earth, leather, peppercorn and graphite.

Full bodied, smooth and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and very fruity, with blackberries, sweet plums, cherry pie, dried figs, tobacco, spices, wood, vanilla, earth, chocolate cake, coffee, peppercorn and leather.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Lodi Cabernet is always enjoyable. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. As a 4 year old, it is much softer, with a tangy ending. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food. Might be too fruity for some.

Wine Enthusiasts 91 points.

Pairs well with a big piece of steak.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$18.

Dark purple in color with a dirty red rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, dried figs, raisins, blueberries, cherry pie, wood, earth, licorice, cloves, spices, vanilla, peppercorn and pencil lead.

Full-bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and very fruity, with blackberries, sweet black plums, cooked cherries, vanilla, earth, oak, cloves, light bitter herbs, cola, chocolates, graphite, mint, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.

This California Cabernet is always enjoyable. Well balanced with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.
A great sipping wine by the porch or pair it with food like BBQ steak.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (30 minutes).

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Val drinks often. Fun label and well rounded, very drinkable mixed well with our holiday, game playing atmosphere. Others were drinking single malt.
