Drinking great. The dollops Carignan, Alicante Bouchet, and Petite Syrah really work well here, adding color, flesh, and extra dimension from a tannin and length perspective. The wine is wholesome, inviting with its lush black and marionberry pie aromas, there’s an ample dose of smoke and licorice there too. Its very alluring but the palate really shows the balance, yes deeply fruited with a sort of toasty pie crust element, but the focused acidity and tannic grip really hone it all in. It departs spiced and mineral if you will.

Mixed berries with hint of spice and nutmeg. Super rich and lush. Drink soon to capture the fruit. That said, it's aged better than many Chateauneuf du Papes of the same age.

Blackberry, black cherry, and some raspberry, along with silky tannins and fine acidity. Peter Mathis makes balanced wines that highlight Grenache fruit, but are never gooey. New and old world comes together in harmony.

Last Mathis I had years ago left an indelible impression: 2012 surpassed it. Bravo.

This grenache is just delightful. Punchy yet well balanced and smooth. Hints of pepper and currants make for a good finish. Hard to track down, but it's worth the effort to find this gem!
