#prowein2018

100% petit verdot. This followed the 2010 Bastide Saint-Dominique CdP, which provided the intended contrast in styles, but probably created unrealistic expectations. Immediately I was surprised at how old this wine smelled and tasted. (We decanted for an hour.) Interestingly it was evocative of a much, much older right bank Bordeaux than a 10 year old petit verdot. The harness of the grape is gone, and this is much more approachable that I would have guessed. This would no doubt confuse everyone in a blind tasting.

Inky, tannic. A little green bell pepper on the nose. Hot, alcohol of 14.5% but it's pronounced.

My first Petit Verdot. The fruit isn't distinct and crisp, but it's pungent & deep nonetheless. I can see why it's a blending grape. Color and tannin.
