I am not a big merlot fan but the rating on the Markham lives up to it and it's a great value. Vanilla and fruit. Another few years would show even more flavor.

My Mid week sanity. This time it is in a form of a very enjoyable Napa Merlot.

Deep purple in color with a purple rim.

Nice fruity nose with blueberries, plums, black currants, sweet cherries, vanilla, oak, licorice, cola, light vegetables, peppercorn, earth, cloves, nutmeg, spices, chocolates, sage, eucalyptus, pencil lead and smoke.

Full-bodied and bold, with medium plus acidity and long long legs.

Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, blackberries, currants, earth, vanilla, licorice, pine, chocolates, dark coffee, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm, green tannins and cherries.

A very nice Napa Merlot. Still young, but already enjoyable, and needs an hour to open up. A good sipping wine, once it is opens up, and also good with food. Paired very nicely with grilled meats on the barbecue.

Would be much better in 3 to 5 years, once more complexity comes in. Not fully balanced, but shows nice complexity potential.

I enjoyed it just by itself. A good sipping wine. The nose is not intense enough yet, but the palate is very rewarding. Alcohol is still noticeable at this point, but time will make it all better.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

Beautiful deep ruby in color, with a light red rim.

Nice and fruity nose of blueberries, blackberries, black currants, plums, bell pepper, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, earth, leather, herbs and peppercorn. Interesting and layered.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black tart cherries, black currants, sweet plums, green peppers, asparagus, licorice, cedar, vanilla, leather, earth, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.

This Napa Merlot is complex, interesting and balanced with a great mouthfeel.
Drinkable right out of the bottle, but evolved some in the decanter.

Already enjoyable by itself now, but will age nicely in the next few years. A little bitter on the ending after it opened up, which will probably go away in time. This vintage is much better than the 2011 I had before.

I paired it with fillet minon and roasted vegetables. This was a nice surprise.

This wine is a very Jammy Bold profile for a Merlot. The cocoa and raspberry notes create a robust full bodied flavor with a rich velvety finish!

1st time I had this was 15 years ago in Corpus Christi, still good and I have it every time I come back here....300-400 bottles later I’m still impressed

Deep ruby red color. Thick, long lasting legs. Bouquet of tobacco and cherry. Smooth taste with more hints of oak, deep dark cherry, and tobacco. Smooth flavor with low tannins. Great value!
