The first release of Le Russe Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2017 will be Spring 2019. It's pretty exciting to have a new shot at Pinot Noir in a different style - one that focuses on the perfume of the Pinot Noir grape. Three vineyards collide in this wine and the result is much greater than the sum. FYI - "Le Russe" = Russian and "La Rivière" = River so these wines are named after their AVA.

1 person found it helpfulAug 29th, 2018Dark plum color with a ruby core. The nose is so quintessentially Pinot with notes of fresh cherries and strawberries. There’s a distinct green tinge indicating the youthfulness of the wine. I probably shouldn’t have opened this. It’s still just a baby but it’s Donald Patz and I just cannot resist. This is going to be such a wonderfully structured wine. Medium bodied with a light touch in the mouth. Ridiculous acidity here and when everything comes together, this baby really sings. Smoky cedar, pretty red fruit, and dewy grass on the palate. The potential here really is tremendous but it’s going to take a few more years in the bottle. As of now, it’s still a more interesting Pinot than I’ve had from California in quite some time.
