Francisca, Alvarelhão, Sousão, etc.) from old vines in Vila Nova de Foz Côa in Douro Superior (Upper Douro), not far from the Spanish-Portuguese border (La Raia, an area known for its smuggling past. Hence the name). Aged in used oak barrels for 15 months. Intense nose with aromas of dark fruit, prunes, chocolate and some spices. Powerful, full-bodied. Despite the 15% alcohol it feels quite fresh. Elegant. Polished tannins. Great at almost 10 years
