Probably the best NZ wine I ever had. Beautiful expression of cab franc, blend.

At the United Cellars Cabernet tasting. Man O War is the largest producer on Waiheke Island - 44% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc - the rest in descending order of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Woody perfume notes. Light to medium bodied with some caramel oak and red berries coming through on palate of medium intensity.

Ironclad 10: quote a lot of red fruits, plummy, cherry, sous Bois, autumnal notes, leather. Quite juicy, very elegant, good acids, plum, cherry, and only a smudge of mineral, gravel, oak cedAr finish

Spicy bramble fruits leaning more towards blackberry. There is a great mix of blackcurrant pastel and sweet meats and a touch of iron ore. Palate is more about structure than fruit which is dark and quite austere, strong mineral finish.

Huge wine, full of dark fruit, leathery, strong alcohol initially so needs to breathe a bit
