Man O' War Vineyards
Cabernet Franc Merlot
Waiheke Island, Auckland, North Island, New Zealand
Really enjoyed this. For an NZ Bordeaux blend it was full of fruit and finished without any signs of being a young wine. Getting this again.

Sep 10th, 2016Deep, dark (almost black!) colour with a lovely but not overpowering blackberry and blackcurrant nose with hints of leather and undergrowth, though after breathing this mellows to a more MOR plum bouquet but with a hint of liquorice. Much lighter bodied than I was expecting, smooth and the 14.5 per cent alcohol was not as noticeable as would've expected. The taste is a little underwhelming however - plum with hints of mushroom. But again on breathing that hint of liquorice emerges which adds interest. Well worth decanting / leaving to breathe and ensuring it is at room temperature.
