New vintage, got a smoking deal on this old fave (for a supermarket red). Garnet red, medium pigment extraction. Raspberry, cooked meat and flower aromas on nose. Raspberry and blackberry flavors, slightly tart, some wood, vanilla and astringency on finish. Seems light on the alcohol; call it a “session Pinotage”. An under appreciated varietal, and a decent enough iteration here.

Oh no - broke my corkscrew, so at least this wine had a screw cap. Medium extracted pigment, purple-red in color. Slightly skunky note in nose. Banana (which blew off quickly) and soft cherry flavors in mouth; ten minutes later blackberry and black currant flavors emerged. Some medium-weight skin tannin across palate and front of tongue on finish, but a bit of aeration tempered those tannins into a soft mouthfeel. Past its prime, but typically a solid and super cheap choice if drunk quicker than I did here.

Nice ruby in color with a light ruby rim.

Stinky on the nose with plums, blueberries, barnyard, raspberries, earth, wet leaves, wood, spices, tobacco leaf, light vanilla, vegetables and bitter herbs.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Tart on the attack and dry on the palate with plums, sour cherries, licorice, vegetables, earth, peppercorn, leather, smoke and dark chocolates.

Medium finish with soft tannins and tart strawberries.

A drinkable Red wine from South Africa. Nice for everyday, and better to be accompanied with food. Simple with a soft mouth feel and unbalanced.

I had it by itself, and it got to be tart after 30 minutes of airtime. So drink quickly...

14% alcohol by volume.

Prominent Banana funk that I can't wholly embrace. Not refined like in Kanonkop.

Not mad about it. Cherry and red fruit flavor profile. Simplicity.
