Medium ruby with pale and somewhat watery rim. Aromatic offering notes of damp earth, dried leaves, cherries, and red currants. Medium bodied with incredible purity and balance. Soft red fruits give way to silky tannins on the finish. 13.13% ABV. $54.

Not had wine from this producer before, but I adore this vineyard, and at a close out price, I wanted to give it a try.

As expected for Bien Nacido, there was a savory note on the nose with some smoked meat and iron, wrapped around rhubarb tart and candied black cherries. On the palate, it was quite light and semi acidic, with hardly any finish. I’m assuming there was a small use of whole cluster here due to the spice and lifted profile, but aside from that, it was fairly easy going with potpourri, bing cherries, and some cedar.

Lutum Bien Nacido Vineyards Pinot Noir 2014: Medium-light bodied. Medium acidity. Low tannins. Aromatic rose petal nose. Bright red fruits (strawberry, cranberry & raspberry) flavors. Earth. Mushroom. Herbs. Delicate sophisticated finish. For me, this was an outstanding smooth, light & balanced Pinot; not your typical fruit bomb you’d expect from most CA wines. This is a different kind of Pinot Noir; this one had the right finesse where the terroir spoke more than the fruit. Overall, a really elegant & enjoyable wine. Bummer they are no more! Great day to all! Cheers🍷
